Description
HY-BRAID® braided silicone hose assemblies are high purity, platinum cured silicone hoses designed for the delivery of pharmaceutical media, where hygiene and dependable pressure performance are critical. They are also well suited to applications in the bio-technology, life sciences and food and beverage markets.
The key difference is the reinforcement. HY-BRAID® is a hybrid multifilament polyester yarn that has been mechanically and chemically modified to bond to both the silicone liner and the outer cover. Conventional polyester braid, and high tenacity polyester in particular, adheres poorly to silicone. When the assembly is pressurised, the yarn can pull out from under the end fitting and cause a balloon at the end of the hose, known as the "Cobra effect". Because every HY-BRAID® filament is bonded into the hose wall, the reinforcement stays anchored, and the hose delivers its rated pressure in actual service whatever the style of end termination.
This matters most for hygienic moulded end assemblies. With a clamped fitting, the yarn can be held in place by swaging further. A hygienic moulded end has no clamping at all, so the assembly relies entirely on how well the braid adheres to the silicone. Standard and high tenacity yarns can pull out at relatively low pressures. HY-BRAID® allows hygienic moulded assemblies to operate at much higher pressures.
High tenacity polyester offers a higher tensile strength on paper, but that strength is wasted if the yarn pulls out before it can be used. HY-BRAID® is designed to make use of its full tensile strength.
HY-BRAID® silicone hose is produced in a Class 7 clean room under procedures controlled by ISO 9001:2015. All burst pressures are actual burst pressures tested to ISO 1402:2009, and working pressures are recommended in accordance with ISO 7751:2016.
Working pressures up to: 9 bar
Temp range from 0℃
Key Features
- Pharmaceutical grade, platinum cured silicone
- HY-BRAID® reinforcement bonded to liner and cover
- Designed to eliminate the "Cobra effect" at the hose end
- Rated pressures maintained whatever the end termination
- Enables higher pressure hygienic moulded end assemblies
- Burst pressures based on actual testing, not calculated values
- Manufactured in a Class 7 clean room
- Available in PBX (USP Class VI & EP 3.1.9) and PB (EP 3.1.9) grades
Applications
HY-BRAID® braided silicone hose is ideal for positive pressure pharmaceutical, bio-tech and life sciences transfer applications. It is particularly suited to hygienic moulded end assemblies, where a reinforcement that stays bonded under pressure is demanded.
Construction
Liner
High purity platinum cured extruded silicone smoothbore liner
Reinforcement
One layer of HY-BRAID® hybrid multifilament polyester braid, bonded to liner and cover
Cover
High purity platinum cured silicone
Connections
HY-BRAID® hose can be supplied with hygienic crevice free moulded end terminations. The sealing gaskets are moulded directly onto the hose assembly, with no hose tails, clips or clamps. This creates a fully hygienic, crevice free end termination and keeps the full bore of the hose through the entire length of the assembly. HY-BRAID® hose is also compatible with conventional clamped and swaged end fittings. Flextech offer 316L stainless steel, permanently swaged Shawlok® couplings which includes Triclamp, DIN 11851, RJT, SMS, IDF, BSP and BSPT fully hygienic end connections.
